Considering most Catalans head to the coast in August, Barcelona offers some interesting art for anyone still in town.  From the grafiti doors of the El Born district to the sophisticated large scale impasto works of Mallorca born artist Miquel Barcelo.

The Caixa Forum, a Contemporary Art and Culture Centre features diverse exhibitions.  Currently on view are Miquel Barcelo – painter / performance artist / sculptor and contemporary photographer Isabel Muños. (see below images)

The powerful photographic exhibition by Isabel Muños, Infancia was funded by UNICEF and the La Caixa foundation in the occasion of the 20th anniversary of The Children Rights Convention. The collection of images portray children of different backgrounds from 4 continents, Africa, Asia, Europe and America to underline all children are equal therefore they deserve the same rights.  Infancia by Isabel Muños will be at CaixaForum in Barcelona until the 29th of August.

The Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya has a fantastic display of  works offering a journey through 1000 years of art: from Romanesque art – with the most important collection of mural painting in the world – to Modernisme and the Avant-garde.   It includes works by El Greco, Velazques, Fortuny, Gaudi, Casas, Julio Gonzales, Dali and Picasso.
